Cranbrook residents can experience local attractions for free during ‘Be a Tourist in Your Own Town’ day. This special event invites participants to visit a variety of Cranbrook attractions on one-day only special tours and events. You’re invited to attend showings at the Studio & Stage Door, explore Fort Steele Heritage Town, challenge your friends to mini-golf, and visit Fisher Peak Camping & Trailer Rentals. Many more attractions are inviting you to visit too. So, be a tourist for the day! Join us on Saturday, June 4, 2016.

Cranbrook Visitor Centres

Cranbrook has two Visitor Centres: the North Centre is located on the highway at the Chamber of Commerce; the seasonal centre is located on the highway at the West entrance to Cranbrook. Public washrooms and picnic areas are available. Stop by either of Cranbrook’s Visitor Centres or call 250-426-5914 to find out about all the experiences available in Cranbrook on June 4th and year round!

Mission Hills Golf Course

Mission Hills is offering golf, food and fun for the whole family! Locals can golf 18 holes for 15$ a round; bring your family and your kids 12 years old and under can golf for free on your paid round! Mission Hill’s year round restaurant, Tico’s, wants in on the fun too! They are offering Cranbrook locals 2 for 1 Chicken Feta Enchiladas all day long! Kids 12 and under will recieve a free order of Kids Nachos when you order any meal in the clubhouse. Not into the Mexican flair? Have no fear, their full menu has traditional favourites for every appetite. Reservations are preferred but not essential! Call (250) 489-3009.

Baker Hill Heritage B&B

This award-winning century-old mansion signals the entrance to the Baker Hill Heritage Area in Cranbrook. Meet the owner, Gladys Goss-Laing, who was born and raised in Cranbrook and tour this beautiful heritage bed and breakfast.   Known locally as “The Fergie House” Baker Hill Heritage B&B has been in business for 18 years.

Fort Steele Heritage Town

Wonder as you wander through over 60 heritage shops and display buildings of this restored 1890’s pioneer boomtown. Fort Steele will be hosting two scheduled Gossip Tours at 11am and 2pm and two Archive Tours at 1pm and 3pm. The Archive Tours are an exciting opportunity to see some of the archives and items not out for display; a behind the scenes look at the curatorial work that goes into preserving our history.

Cranbrook Community Theatre

Cranbrook Community Theatre extends an open invitation to tour. Meet Miss Melodie, a character from Cranbrook circa 1905 for a brief history of this heritage building. The Production Manager will showcase the theatre.  Tour the fabulous Costume Rooms with the Costume Mistresses. Meet the Building Manager for a tour of the Studio and learn about the many different activities held at the studio.

Clear Sky Center

Food Forest

Visit Clear Sky Center and tour the Food Forest. Join in on a walk-about, tour the one-acre cold climate food forest and learn about the programs and retreats they have to offer. On the way enjoy the beautiful vistas of the Steeples and the Bull River. No reservation is required.

High Country Sports

Visit High Country Sports and “ASK DAN”! Dan Mills, our local hiking expert will be available to answer questions about local hiking and backpacking and to talk about and show photos from his favorite hikes in the Cranbrook area. Don’t forget to enter the draw for some great prizes!

Mini Golf at Elizabeth Lake Lodge

Kootenay Trout Hatchery & Visitor Centre

Visit the Kootenay Trout Hatchery for guided tours and learn about local aquatic life including the huge sturgeons that live in the Kootenays. Try fishing in the pond, check out the turtle pond and tour the aquariums. Call ahead to book a four hour learn to fish experience.

Nip and Tuck Gold Mining Adventures

Experience real life gold panning and mining, learning from the modern day pioneer Steve Latham! This experience could be very worthwhile as Steve regularly successfully extracts gold on the Wildhorse, the site of the original gold rush in the late 1800’s. No reservation is required. Sweet Gestures Chocolate Shoppe

Come to Cranbrook’s very own boutique chocolate shoppe for a behind-the-scenes tour to see their hand-dipped Belgian truffles in the making. The Heidout Restaurant and Brewhouse

Cranbrook is proud to be home to the Heid Out, the Kootenay’s only brew-pub! Come for a behind the scenes tour of the Fisher Peak Brewing Company where six artisan ales are brewed on site, between the upstairs brew house and downstairs brewery. Check out their limited release seasonal offerings such as the much sought after ginger beer. Bring your friends and stay for a pint and fantastic food.

Cranbrook History Centre

Visit the Museum of Rail Travel at the Cranbrook History Centre and step back in time to the golden age of rail travel. Take the Grand Tour of train cars including Edwardian art nouveau elegance of the 1907 “Soo Spokane” and the art deco jazz themed “Trans Canada”. After the tour, spot local landmarks on the model railway; view a rare crystallized fossil and step inside the Royal Alexandra Hall – originally the social centerpiece of the CP Hotel in Winnipeg in the early 1900’s, since rebuilt as a gem of South-Eastern BC, right here in Cranbrook.  No reservations necessary.

St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino

Ktunaxa Interpretive Centre

Learn about the 10,000 year heritage of the Ktunaxa First Nations people in this area at the Ktunaxa Interpretive Centre. View the many displays containing examples of traditional stone, bead, hide, as well as a sturgeon-nosed canoe.
